Organizational Troubles

2009
11.09

So I have been such a procrastinator. With everything that’s been going on, I haven’t made time to clean up let alone scrapbook. I’m just as tired of excuses as you are, so tomorrow (as I work today from 6am-10pm) I will finish picking up the room. It’s such a mess that I’m not even going to attempt organizing my scrappy stuff until I can move around easily in there. I’ll then go from there.

I do have to say I did start by going through the file cabinet that we keep in the room and now we’ve decided to sell it as we don’t want to keep that much paper ever again. Such a waste. Shredded years off.

Scrap Pink Success . . . Now what?

Thanks to everyone involved with Scrap Pink 2009! We had too much fun.

So now that it’s over, I’m at a loss. My time has been so consumed that I haven’t focused on anything else. Probably not the best idea I know, but it was worth it.

What to do? I could set another goal. Sounds good, huh? So let’s see what needs to be done. Well, as you all know, organization is an on-going project. Then there’s those altered/artistic projects I started years ago and have not gotten very far with them. What else, oh yeah, scrapbooking for fun. We have to remember to make time to enjoy our personal projects and hobbies.

Decisions, decisions. . . After long, hard thoughts, I’ve decided the most pertinent of the above is my space. I just can’t work in a mess without a clear area or even a chair. So, for the next two weeks I’ll be cleaning up, organizing, and maybe even throwing out.

Starting this evening, I will make my space usable again!

**Any suggestions on how to organize with zero to no money, please post a comment.**

Bi-Weekly Project

So, it’s still a work in progress, but it’s getting there. I now have a room that I can use to work. I’ll post photos once it’s basically complete, which should be soon.

Now for my next project: I’ve decided to get back to hands on. Again, since my room is not quite complete, I’ll make it fairly simply. In the next two weeks, I will scrapbook. That’s right, just scrapbook. I haven’t actually made a page in over a month it seems and I have several photos from New York that are just waiting to be displayed. My goal is to scrapbook over half the photos I have printed. This is going to be great fun!

Bi-Weekly Project

So it’s March now and I’ve been setting up the house, entertaining guests, celebrating Mardi Gras, and everything else. Now it’s time to focus on my work. The project for this week, and maybe next week depending on how long it’s going to take me, is to set up my scrapbook room. That’s right, I have a room! Well, I’m sharing it with my photography and my husband’s music studio, but it’s a place to spread out and it’s not on the coffee table.

Anyway, my goal is to have the room set up and ready to use by next weekend. I’m starting a scrapbooking group for local Metairie and New Orleans residents, so I’ll need to be organized. I’m so excited because we have so much room. I can’t wait to start meeting other scrappers here. I miss my ladies from previous groups so much.

Here’s to them and off to go organizing.

Bi-Weekly Project – Break Time

2009

Well, it’s moving week, so I’m going to have to take a break until we’re settled and have internet. Come back this next weekend to see if I’m up and running again.

Until then . . .

Bi-Weekly Project – Inspiration

So I completed my project sooner than expected, it’s just taken a few days to get the photos up.

Here is the inspirational photo:

This photograph was taken on the move from Texas to New York in the beautiful state of Virginia. I couldn’t resist the gorgeous landscapes out my window.

So taking the colors and even the layout of the colors, I’ve creating these two scrapbook pages. The first uses not just the color scheme, but also the position of the colors.

The second page uses the scraps from the first and just goes with the unsual, but great color scheme.

This challenge was tons of fun and got me to do a page with colors that I wouldn’t generally use. I hope you can take my photograph and its wonderfully natural colors to create a page, card, or other type of project of your own. And if you do, please let me know with a comment and a link to your project’s photo.

Bi-Weekly Project

2009
01.08

This week’s project is based on inspiration. We all know there are times when creativity is just not flowing. That creative block. Everyone has their special way to get inspired. You might check out a blog, for instance, or a magazine or even just chat up some crafty friends. What I’m going to do to get my juices going is to use what I have readily at hand: my photography. Photographs are what scrapbooking is really all about. Yeah we get caught up in the cute embellishments and techniques, but when it comes right down to it, we are preserving our memories. Memories are mostly in the form of photographs, but also memorabilia and stories. So, I’m going to take our basics of scrapbooking and squeeze out the creativity.

Bi-Weekly Project:

I will select one of my artsy photographs and use the colors from it. Instead of using a photo that I plan on scrapbooking, I’m going to pick from my art collection. Now, this photograph will not actually be put on the project, just simply be used for the inspiration. I might even base this project on where the colors are in the photograph. For example, with a nature shot, I would keep the blues on top and the greens on bottom. We’ll see where it takes me. Once complete, I will post the inspirational photograph and the completed project(s). Then, of course, I will challenge you all to use the colors for your next project and share with us if it helped or if there were any difficulties.

Now off to find the inspiration . . .

Happy New Year!

2009
01.04

So for the year 2009 I am pushing myself even further. I have decided to create goals and challenges for my work.

To be realistic, I’m going to start with bi-weekly projects. I will post a project that I will complete in two weeks. It could be as simple as a scrapbook page or new technique or may even be as much as an entire album. With every completed project, I will post a photograph and describe my process including any difficulties, tips, or questions. To help me through each goal, I would love your feedback both positive and critical.

I have started this process on my photography website as well, so feel free to check it out – Emily W. Kincke Photography.
